THE THOUSAND AND
ONE THOUSAND: because this land has always been a point of contact for races, peoples, civilizations and thousands are its faces, the somatic types of people presently living there, the language shadings, from Arab to Aramaic, Armenian, Kurdish.
ONE: because along centuries they have been learning to live together, with mutual differences and now, the consciuosness to be only one nation, strongly marks the relations among the different minorities.
ONE THOUSAND: because many are the historical, religious, artistic treasures coming from cultures which alternated in Syria.
ONE: as, unfortunately, our media show only one Syria.
ONE THOUSAND: as, except for Coptics, all the ancient Christian Churches are present there, as well as various Muslim confessions and some Protestant Churches, each with the variety of their traditions.
ONE: because life as well as gathering together for a celebration, a moment of prayer, a Saint Day, all this creates Ecumenism. And the Interreligiosity is the daily bread, the mutual experience door to door, at least in the most crowded areas.
ONE THOUSAND: as thousands are the expressions for receiving those who we meet, those who we approach.
ONE: because only one is the source of all this; the great Oriental sense for hospitality, for warm welcoming, that makes you feel at home.
And like in the Thousand and One Nights, a history tells another one, an experience opens another one in this land which has still so many life capacities; and where we also wish to root and put in some pages of the Gospel.
